“Deliberate and afraid of nothing” is a quote from the Black lesbian feminist theorist, Audre Lorde. This collection of work displays the beauty, strength, and diversity of Black women. In a society where Black women are often the last people considered and represented, I wanted to focus on the bodies, hair, skin tones, and complexity that Black women share with the world. Sam Viotty is a designer, creative strategist, and illustrator based in Washington DC. She is currently working at Curative Inc, a biotech startup where she cultivates partnerships to scale covid testing to make it more accessible and equitable. Prior to Curative Inc, she was an Experience Designer at The Obama Foundation where she used design thinking to create opportunities for young people across the country. Her artistic career has revolved around youth and community work as a teaching artist. She has had her artwork shown in DC, MA, NY, and CA. She gets excited about having conversations about visual art, museums, libraries, books, and data.
